Summer holidays

It is holiday time for kids and testing time for parents. It may sound funny but it is a testing time for home makers because they don't know how to engage children for whole day and can't take risk of moving outside scorching summer.What are your general plans? For most of the mother's summer time is for visiting their parent's house. Especially those who are far away from their parents, will definitely like to visit their parents during summer to engage children outside their comfort zone ie., home. When i suggest my kids who are 11 and 9 year boys that we will plan and visit pilgrim places, the immediate reaction is a big "NO not again". How many times we should only visit temples and temples always? my younger one shouts. "Papa why don't we go to Shimla, Ooty or such kind of places than just Shirdi, tirupati etc.". I have to pacify them saying visiting holy places gives us peace and prosperity and more importantly good health by the blessings of the deity on our visit. Recently my mother asked the kids"guys get ready, your papa may come home little early and it is his wedding anniversary and he will take you out in the evening. Pat came the reply "What so big deal? Anyways we have to visit some temple as usual and it has been the trend since UGADI". "Can he anytime think and have some innovative thoughts to take us to some nice places to enjoy around?" I was also feeling little disturbed that young generation are not really get motivated by visiting only temples and i need to take them for a nice dinner at a reasonable budget hotel and then try and take them to IMAX or some multiplex to watch the most punishing movies of our lives and coupled with doling out monies for that junk stuff arranged in a nice kiosks/eateries inside these multiplexes. Movie watching is definitely a great experience if you are watching in these giant screens but the associated costs are also gives us great experiences to remember. However, deviated from the main topic. Best way to enjoy summer holidays for kids would be joining them in Summer camps organised by schools or some other institutions and making kids utilize their best of the summer holidays by learning new subjects and also reading some exciting books.

BRIGHTER THAN THE SUN - PHOTOGRAPHIC EVIDENCE OF HUMAN TRANSFIGURATION

This story describes how a very special photograph of the Risen Christ was manifested by Sri Sathya Sai Baba for a visitor to one of his ashrams known as Prasanthi Nilayam - which means the Abode of Peace - in Puttaparti, India, in 1985. I relay the details to you as they were conveyed to me by Barbara McAlley, a friend who I met 'quite by chance' amongst a throng of people at Bombay airport in July 1987.

We established an immediate rapport, both being English, although she had been living in New Zealand for the past twenty years. When Barbara first showed me this wondrous photograph of the Risen Christ in our hotel room in Bombay, I couldn't wait to hear her story of how it had come into being, knowing it was more than just a coincidence that we had met. Barbara had been a devotee of Sathya Sai Baba, who many people feel is the Avatar of this Age, for a number of years. Now she was just returning from her second visit to see him. She was carrying this photograph of the Risen Christ with her not only because it had originated in Puttaparti in the first place but also because she always took the picture with her when she travelled. In 1985 Barbara had gone to Puttaparti with a friend from New Zealand. Her friends who at the time was very much caught up with all the suffering of Christ, had with her two items which she hoped Sai Baba would bless for her - a crucifix and a black and white photograph of a computer printout of the image of Christ taken from the Turin Shroud. Daily they had attended darshan, a Sanskrit word meaning the devotional seeing and gazing upon (as a blessing) of the Master, in order that they might sit at the feet of their Lord.


On one such occasion Sai Baba stopped in front of them and looked at the items that Barbara's friend held out to him for a blessing. However he refused to accept the crucifix. When will we Christians take Christ off the cross and place him in his proper context? It has been said of the cross at another time, "Let the longer piece of the cross represent God's Will and the shorter piece your will. If you lay the two pieces side by side, parallel to each other, there is no cross. It is only when your will conflicts with God's will, when you cannot say Thy Will be done, O Lord, that the cross is created. If your will acquiesces with God's will, there is no cross. The way to take down the cross: therefore, is always to accept gladly and lovingly whatever trial, pain or loss God sends and surrender your ego". Then, as Sai Baba focussed his attention on her friend's photograph of Christ, Barbara watched spellbound as with a lift and a wave of his hand Sai Baba drew from that photograph of the Turin Shroud the black and white image of Christ until there was nothing left but a blank sheet of gloss paper. Then, in the same manner, he created on that blank sheet (just as if it were in a developing tray in a darkroom) the colour image of the Risen Christ as you see it today. This image has eyes so full of love and compassion that they comfort and touch you on a deep inner level when you come into its range of vision. Then, with a blessing for the two women from New Zealand, Sai Baba went on his way, knowing full well that life would never be the same for them again! This seems to be the case for all those who have visited Sai Baba, including myself.

Barbara has commented that if she does nothing more with her life than pass on copies of this photograph, she will be well satisfied! She has also said that this experience with Sai Baba has proved to be an encouragement for her to go on and achieve things which she had previously thought to be quite impossible. Although I did not choose to create an opportunity to see this photograph of the Risen Christ or to meet Barbara when we were together at the ashram, it would seem that it was 'arranged' by Sai Baba that we should meet shortly afterwards in that crowded airport in Bombay in order that I might be instrumental in distributing this very special photograph in Europe and America and in various other countries around the world.

Barbara said, during our first conversation in the hotel, that it was apparent to her that Sai Baba wanted me to have the photograph and to take it hack to England. Apparently I had ignored the invitation whilst staying at his ashram, and so the photograph had to be placed before me in such a fashion that I could not ignore it! It was a case of when Mohammed won't come to the mountain, then the mountain has to come to Mohammed. Barbara and I continue to keep in touch with each other's progress and we are both very much aware of how close we are, not only to each other, but to the Source.

Will Team India pay tribute to the God of Cricket -Sachin Tendulkar

Battle-lines are drawn for the grand finale to the Cup of Joy, ICC ODI World cup 2011. All eyes are now on Mumbai, Wankhede stadium, Within few hours the battle will start and It is indeed heartening to see that Indians are playing in their own back yard and they are starting as favourites to win this World cup. The God of Cricket will be playing in front of home crowd, which is probably his last match in a World cup. The million dollar question is can India do it this time? Are we really geared up for this grand occasion. Dhoni boys have displayed brilliance in bits and pieces and it is not at all a formidable bowling and fielding side. The Semi final Clash between India and Pakistan in Mohali has not really lived to its expectations. We saw so many catches dropped, fielding errors by Pakistani team and Bowling of the likes of Umar Gul looked like he came for match practice. Captain Dhoni admitted that he has read the wicket wrongly and included 3 seamers for the match but it was blessing in disguise may be for him that all his bowlers lived upto his expectations. Given this Back drop and the conditions, I will put Indian team at 60:40 favourites to win the Grand finale. Now looking at the strengths of the Lankans, 2 Players of theirs are featured in top 3 leading batsmen in this world cup. Further to this, the 3M factor Murali, Malinga and Mendis performance will be crucial for Srilanka to change their fortunes. The blue team has their own set of problems, Now since Nehra is declared unfit, we may have to play either Srisanth or Ashwin if we are not going for his replacement. Stistics reveal that Lankans have won 2 and lost 2 at this ground and Team India has won 8 and lost 6 so far. Traditionally Lankans are good chasers and if India elects to bat first, they should post not less than 300 runs so that the Lankans falter in chasing. The top four batsmen are the key. Their middle order is not so strong and have their weaknesses. According to media reports,the Pitch is a batting beauty and there will be little assitance for seamers and spinners equally. Team India has handled Pakistan spin with great difficulty but mind you it was stopping and turning. Team India has very strong middle order and good opening partners. Bowling is totally depended on the shoulders of Zaheer khan, Bhajji and Munaf and of-course the form of Yuvraj is helping us to take crucial wickets at regular intervals.

The Master blaster will eagerly look at recording his 100th century at his home ground. It looks in all probability that Master may help Team India win this world cup than the other way. Come on India, We are all with you. Wishing you all the best. Go India Go.

World cup cricket 2011

Writing the blog after long long time. Cricket fever is on everywhere and i am no exception. Most of the matches played till date have established that associate countries like ireland, kenya, netherlands etc., have really proved their worth and they deserve to be in the world cup league. Most of the pitches in india, bangla and srilanka have played to its true nature. There are batting friendly wickets, occasionally helps seamers but are slow turners. It is not really a great matter, whether a team is going to bat first or second. Toss element is not that crucial as it was in overseas matches witnessed in earlier world cup in England and south africa (20-20 edition).

As far as Indian team performance is concerned, it didn't look like a champion team unlike in 1999 when Ganguly was leading the team. There seems to lethargy from top to bottom in so far as bowling trends are concerned. Poor bowling backed up by dismal fielding performance makes us tough to believe that this team is going to win.

I am quite confident that Indians will go to quarterfinals after that it can be anybody's game due to knock out situation.

We saw glipmses of old sachin during his batting attack. Sehwag is also in good nick. He needs to come good when the team needs more.

If we look at other teams, aussies, new zealand looks like top favourites so far.

Kim Ung-Yong: Attended University at age 4, Ph.D at age 15; world's highest IQ
This Korean super-genius was born in 1962 and might just be the smartest guy alive today (he's recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as having the highest IQ of anyone on the planet). By the age of four he was already able to read in Japanese, Korean, German, and English. At his fifth birthday, he solved complicated differential and integral calculus problems. Later, on Japanese television, he demonstrated his proficiency in Chinese, Spanish, Vietnamese, Tagalog, German, English, Japanese, and Korean. Kim was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records under "Highest IQ"; the book estimated the boy's score at over 210.

Kim was a guest student of physics at Hanyang University from the age of 3 until he was 6. At the age of 7 he was invited to America by NASA. He finished his university studies, eventually getting a Ph.D. in physics at Colorado State University before he was 15. In 1974, during his university studies, he began his research work at NASA and continued this work until his return to Korea in 1978 where he decided to switch from physics to civil engineering and eventually received a doctorate in that field. Kim was offered the chance to study at the most prestigious universities in Korea, but instead chose to attend a provincial university. As of 2007 he also serves as adjunct faculty at Chungbuk National University.


Gregory Smith: Nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize at age 12
Born in 1990, Gregory Smith could read at age two and had enrolled in university at 10. But “genius” is only one half of the Greg Smith story. When not voraciously learning, this young man travels the globe as a peace and children’s rights activist.

He is the founder of International Youth Advocates, an organization that promotes principles of peace and understanding among young people throughout the world. He has met with Bill Clinton and Mikhail Gorbachev and spoke in front of the UN. For these and other humanitarian and advocacy efforts, Smith has been nominated four times for a Nobel Peace Prize. His latest achievement? He just got his driver license.


Akrit Jaswal: The Seven Year-Old Surgeon
Akrit Jaswal is a young Indian who has been called "the world's smartest boy" and it's easy to see why. His IQ is 146 and is considered the smartest person his age in India—a country of more than a billion people.

Akrit came to public attention when in 2000 he performed his first medical procedure at his family home. He was seven. His patient — a local girl who could not afford a doctor — was eight. Her hand had been burnt in a fire, causing her fingers to close into a tight fist that wouldn't open. Akrit had no formal medical training and no experience of surgery, yet he managed to free her fingers and she was able to use her hand again.

He focused his phenomenal intelligence on medicine and at the age of twelve he claimed to be on the verge of discovering a cure for cancer. He is now studying for a science degree at Chandigarh College and is the youngest student ever accepted by an Indian University.


Cleopatra Stratan: a 3 year old singer who earns 1000€ per song
Clepotra was born October 6, 2002 in Chisinau, Moldova and is the daughter of Moldovan-Romanian singer, Pavel Stratan. She is the youngest person ever to score commercial success as a singer, with her 2006 album La vârsta de trei ani ("At the age of 3"). She holds the record for being the youngest artist that performed live for two hours in front of a large audience, the highest paid young artist, the youngest artist to receive an MTV award and the youngest artist to score a #1 hit in a country ("Ghita" inRomanian Singles Chart).



Aelita Andre: The 2-year-old artist who showed her paintings in a famous Gallery
The abstract paintings of emerging artist Aelita Andre have people in Australia's art world talking. Aelita is two (the works were painted when she was even younger).

Aelita got an opportunity to show her paintings when Mark Jamieson, the director of Brunswick Street Gallery in Melbourne's Fitzroy, was asked by a photographer whose work he represented to consider the work of another artist. Jamieson liked what he saw and agreed to include it in a group show.

Jamieson then started to promote the show, printing glossy invitations and placing ads in the magazines Art Almanac and Art Collector, featuring the abstract work. Only then did he discover a crucial fact about the new artist: Aelita Andre is Kalashnikova's daughter, and was just 22 months old. Jamieson was shocked and embarrassed but decided to proceed with the exhibition anyways.





Saul Aaron Kripke: Invited to apply for a teaching post at Harvard while still in high school
A rabbi's son, Saul Aaron Kripke was born in New York and grew up in Omaha in 1940. By all accounts he was a true prodigy. In the fourth grade he discovered algebra, and by the end of grammar school he had mastered geometry and calculus and taken up philosophy. While still a teenager he wrote a series of papers that eventually transformed the study of modal logic. One of them earned a letter from the math department at Harvard, which hoped he would apply for a job until he wrote back and declined, explaining, "My mother said that I should finish high school and go to college first". After finishing high school, the college he eventually chose was Harvard.

Kripke was awarded the Schock Prize, philosophy's equivalent of the Nobel. Nowadays, he is thought to be the world's greatest living philosopher.


Michael Kevin Kearney: earned his first degree at age 10 and became a reality show Millionaire
24 year-old Michael Kearney became known as the world's youngest college graduate at the age of 10. In 2008, Kearney earned $1,000,000 on the television game show Who Wants to be a Millionaire?

Kearny was born in 1984 and is was known for setting several world records and teaching college at the age of 17.

He spoke his first words at four months. At the age of six months, he said to his pediatrician "I have a left ear infection" and learned to read at the age of ten months. When Michael was four, he was given diagnostic tests for the Johns Hopkins precocious math program and achieved a perfect score. He finished high school at age 6, enrolled at Santa Rosa Junior College graduating at 10 with an Associate of Science in Geology. He is listed in the Guinness Book as the world's youngest university graduate at the age of 10, receiving a bachelor's degree in anthropology. For a while, he also held the record for the world's youngest postgraduate.

But in 2006, he became worldwide famous after reaching the finals on the Mark Burnett/AOL quiz/puzzle game Gold Rush, and became the first $1 million winner in the online reality game.


Fabiano Luigi Caruana: a chess prodigy who became the youngest Grandmaster at age 14
Fabulous Fabiano is a 16-year-old chess Grandmaster and chess prodigy with dual citizenship of Italy and the United States.

On 2007 Caruana became a Grandmaster at the age of 14 years, 11 months, 20 days - the youngest Grandmaster in the history of both Italy and the United States. In the April 2009 FIDE list, he has an Elo rating of 2649, making him the world's highest ranked player under the age of 18.


Willie Mosconi: played professional Billiards at age 6
William Joseph Mosconi, nicknamed "Mr. Pocket Billiards" was a American professional pocket billiards (pool) player from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Willie's father owned a pool hall where he wasn’t allowed to play, but Willie improvised by practicing with small potatoes from his mother's kitchen and an old broomstick. His father soon realized that his son was a child prodigy began advertising challenge matches, and though Willie had to stand on a box in order to reach the table, he beat experienced players many years his senior.

In 1919, an exhibition match was arranged between six-year old Willie and the reigning World Champion, Ralph Greenleaf. The hall was packed, and though Greenleaf won that match, Willie played very well launching his career in professionalbilliards . In 1924, at the tender age of eleven, Willie was the juvenile straight pool champion and was regularly holding trick shot exhibitions.

Between the years of 1941 and 1957, he won the BCA World Championship of pool an unmatched fifteen times. Mosconi pioneered and employed numerous trick shots, set many records, and helped to popularize the game ofbilliards. He still holds the officially recognized straight pool high run record of 526 consecutive balls.

Arie Tan

Arie Tan, an American child prodigy entered the University at 12 years. He scored a full 800 marks in math, 630 in verbal and 4.5 in analytical writing in Graduate Record Examination (GRE). Now he is 15, and a graduate in molecular genetics with a 3.82 grade point average from Ohio University.
Divya Tej

Divya Tej, an Indian child prodigy is born on 8th June, 1990. He completed 10th standard directly after 4th standard at the age of 8 years. He completed post graduation (Master of Sciences in Zoology) skipping Intermediate and graduation at the age of 11 years from Sri Venkateswara University, India. At present, he is doing his Ph.D. on Epigenetics at Center for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics, Hyderabad, India as a Senior Research Fellow.

Sho Timothy Yano

Sho Timothy Yano, an American child prodigy is born on 22nd October, 1990. He scored 1500 out of 1600 in SAT at the age of 8 and entered Loyola University, Chicago at the age of 9. He graduated “summa cum laude” at the age of 12 and now attends Pritzker School of Medicine at the University of Chicago to earn an MD and Ph.D.

Tathagat Avatar Tulsi, an Indian child prodigy is born on 9th September, 1987. He completed his high school at the age of 9 years, graduation (Bachelor of Sciences) at the age of 10 and post graduation (M.S. in Physics) at the age of 12 from Patna University, India. At present, he is doing his Ph.D. on quantum computing at Indian Institute of Sciences, Bangalore, India as a Senior Research Scientist.

There are many more child prodigies in various other fields, but this article was written on ones who are doing their Ph.D’s before they turned 15. Pre-marital sex is not an offence

Several people asked me and even newspapers have quoted that the Supreme court judges acted in a haste. I personally feel it is not the fault of supreme court and nor the bench which has passed the judgement, as it doesn't reflect the individual or consensus opinion of the learned judges. The Judges are professionals, who go by rule book and no where in the penal code or the constitution there was any such reference that premarital sex is an offence. They have gone by Rule book which quite obviously they are supposed to do so. If the society feels it is immoral, it is the duty of the legislation to make a proper legislation or amendment to the act.

The newspapers have shown the supreme court and the learned judges in a poor light making the public believe that Supreme court judges are at fault.

Premarital sex is not an offence: SC

New Delhi, Mar 22: In an observation that would mightily cheer liberals, the Supreme Court said on Tuesday that live-in relationships and pre-marital sex could not be considered offences.

"When two adult people want to live together what is the offence?” asked a three judge bench comprising of Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan, and Justices Deepak Verma and B.S. Chauhan. “Living together is not an offence. It cannot be an offence."

The court pointed out that even Lord Krishna and Radha had lived together according to mythology.

The judges made the observations while reserving judgment on a special leave petiton filed by Tamil actress Khushboo seeking to quash 22 criminal cases filed against her in Tamil Nadu for allegedly endorsing pre-maritial sex in interviews to various magazines in 2005.

Khushboo was present during the entire hearing and was seated in the first row, dressed immaculately in an orange salwar with a green dupatta wrapped casually and her goggles fixed on her forehead.

The judges asked a battery of lawyers appearing for the complainants what was the offence the actress committed while expressing such views.

The lawyers argued that her comments would mislead young people and lead to decay in moral values. They said that if prominent people make such statements, it would create chaos in society.

“People of Tamil Nadu were worshipping her as Goddess but this is what they got out of her worship," said a lawyer, but the court was not impressed.

"Please tell us what is the offence and under which section,” said the court. “Living together is a right to life.”

The judges also pointed out that views expressed by Khushboo were personal and did not concern others. In a democratic country, people had the right to express views, they said.

"How does it concern you?” they asked. “We are not bothered. At the most it is a personal view. How is it an offence? Under which provision of the law?"

“You have to establish a cognizable offence,” said the judges. “That this may have affected the public morality that is your view but we are only concerned with the law.”

The apex court further asked the complainants to produce evidence to show if any young girls had eloped after the actress gave the interview.

"How many homes have been affected?” the judges asked, and enquired whether the complainants had daughters. When the lawyers replied in the negative, they shot back, "Then how are you adversely affected?"

Meanwhile, Khushboo’s lawyer, Ms Pinkey Anand, alleged that her client had been targeted for political reasons. Even her clarification on the issue was not published in proper perspective by the media, said the counsel.

" She had not made any reference about Tamil Nadu women but this part was not published," Ms Anand said.

The lawyer added that there was nothing wrong in Khushboo’s statement. "Indian society should be liberated from the thinking that a women should be a virgin (at the time of marriage)," she argued.

Khusboo had approached the apex court after the Madras High Court in 2008 dismissed her plea for quashing the criminal cases.

But one thing what i saw in common is customer is customer, Whether he buys a pen or plane his expectations are the same. School Children alias Coolies

Education today is felt as a burden. I always used to wonder whether our education system is designed to equip the children to face the challenges of life or make them future Hamalis for sure. I struggled to lift the baggage of my younger son studying second class. Added to the luggage he has skate boards as additional passenger luggage apart from his food baggage. May be in future, we may have to hire different class of transportation, one for carrying the children other for carrying their baggage. Seperate logistics team working out at the school for making the luggage err..baggage to the right child.

Recently I saw a newspaper report that Kendriya vidyalayas have set weight limits on school baggage. As per the load-shedding policy for classes I and II the baggage should not weigh more than 2 kgs. For classes III and IV the weight is restricted to 3 kgs. For those studying from V to VIII the weight should not exceed 4kgs. The upper limit for IX and X has been set at 6Kgs. The circular further states that they will gradually move to a restriction of 1 Kg weight maximum a child can carry. Nice that atleast Kendriya vidyalayas have taken a serious approach. Our Honourable Minister for HRD Mr.Kapil sibal should also address this for all schools in the country.

Why doesn't schools have a good storage system in their class room itself wherein they keep each child's books in a safe locker?

One more interesting article today I read in Newspaper is that government is seriously thinking on including sports as 7th subject for all classes and it will be implemented in Government schools initially. Wonderful thought and it is highly required for present day generation.

To sum up, I can visualize that soon there will be days where children will shun their traditional books and carry note books(Laptops) to schools. When corporates are working on paperless offices why not paperless school bags for children?

Formula 1 race Pitstop

Most of us who love excitement definitely must have watched Formula 1 racing. It may look simple for an amateur racing enthusiast that they may dream to win the race if they have a best roaring engines zooming past the lanes. However, there is lot of perfection and practice required for competing in Formula 1 racing. One of the most important aspect of Formula 1 racing is pit stop.

What is pit stop?

The pit stop is an earmarked place for a racer to stop for few moments to change tyres and refuel the car and continue.

Any guess what is the time allowed? It is only 7 seconds to complete the whole maintenance exercise. A pit stop, though is never as easy as it looks. The job in the pits is one of the most toughest in the world of formula 1 racing.

Steps involved:

1.The driver enters the pitlane at full speed and reduces it to a speed limit of 80kms/hr and brings the car to a halt at the pit. The fuel filler flap automatically pops open. The driver sets his vehicle in nuetral and keeps his foot on the brake so that the wheels dont turn.

2. The car is lifted up on its jacks and mechanics start removing the wheels. And the fuel is pumped into the car.

3. All the four wheels have been changed,the car is lowered to the ground and the last fuel is pumped in, the driver is shown a board by Lollipop telling him to engage the gear.

4. The fuel hose is detached and the car is ready to go.

Team involved:

1. Lollipop man - Team leader who waves the card.

2. Front jack and rear jack specialists- To lift the car.

3. Wheel changing crew - For Each wheel there will be 2-3 members

4. Refuellers - The refueller has two assisting crew. The rig delivers 12 litres of high octane fuel per second. The fuel pipe will be too heavy and requires atleast two members to lift.

5. Fire crew - overseeing these operations are 2 fire extinguishing crew members holding the pipes and ready to blast the water in case the car catches fire during refuelling.

6. Other crew - For doing cleaning debris and small repairs

Now all this action has to be completed in precisely 7 seconds.. Yes just 7 seconds.
Being part of the pit crew is one of the exciting jobs in a racing team. It is a potentially hazardous job. The mechanics don't get any risk allowance seperately and it is almost impossible for them to find life insurance.

The whole sequence is practised a minimum 25-30 times a day and especially on racing days many more times.

The pit-stop crew can make or break a race. They are crucial to the whole race for a driver.

Airliners have benchmarked their practise of housekeeping and refuelling the aircrafts, repairs etc., on seeing the Formula 1 racing pit stop. The down time of an aircraft from destination to destination will be very small and within the available time they need to finish all the maintenance without any flaw.

Life is also a race and there are pitstops, the pitstops refuels the car and gives the much needed break for the driver, even it is just for seconds.

Our friends, family members are pitstops for every human being. The race goes on...

who loves "bandh"?

Hyderabadis are now terrorised with the word "Bandh". Now a days every other day there is bandh or rallies happening. It has become common these days for political parties to call for bandhs and rallies. These agitations instead of helping for the cause actually have negative impact on the subject for which it is called for. Take T-Cause, almost an academic year of the students in A.P especially in Hyderabad is virtually lost and repeated bandh calls only increase hatred than sympathy. Apart from visible damage to properties, it indirectly affects the economy of the region or state where such agitations are held. Imagine a person has to travel to another place for attending an interview or writing an academic exam or visiting a marraige or even hospital will not be possible due to this. The person/people who lost their golden opportunities because of bandh will only curse the system and the organisers. Recently the Honorable High court has held that wherever properties are damaged or destroyed by people in support of the strike, the amounts to the extent of the damage done should be collected from such people who were directly involved and from the political parties who called for it. It is indeed an excellent direction by the Honorable court. The impact of recent bandhs in A.P was that the state transportation has hiked all the fares including the basic fares of city travel. Who is the loser and who is the gainer? Our country is known for Non-violence and there are several methods to show our protest. Only people who enjoy bandh will be school kids so that they can play all around.

There were news paper reports that in vijayawada and other places where the bandh call was continuous for certain period, Relatives of the dead in the hospital were unable to collect the dead bodies and mortuaries were full with such bodies due to lack of transportation. If Telangana is formed, there will be no other state in South which will have two states with same linguistic except Hindi speaking northern states. I am born and brought up in Hyderabad and i am supporting the cause of telangana. I personally feel Telangana is certainly neglected and exploited and the best way of undoing it is having two seperate assemblies within hyderabad like the singapore model. The local body will be specific for Telangana development and the general assembly for entire A.P. This way the collective bargaining power of Andhra pradesh is still retained and the cause of Telangana is also met. A fight between the brothers is advantage for the outsider.

Modern day gadgets boon or bane for children?

Kind Attention all parents having small kids!

I humbly admit that the present generation IQ is far superior than previous generations. Especially the kids below 10 years exhibit tremendous abilities in terms of handling the modern days gadgets. Even though parents may feel proud about their children being able to navigate/play with these equipments viz., mobiles, laptops, Playstations, DVD' players, desktops etc., there is a dangerous impact in terms of their mental and physical growth.

Take for example, the modern day television, thanks to Mr.J.L.Baird who has invented the idiot box and brought a revolution in terms of technology. it has its impact on all ages and genders. The never ending soap operas and the reality(unreal) shows are keeping the audiences hooked to TV's day and night. More than 200+ channels running round the clock has changed the life of a common man especially the present generation kids.

For a kid below 2 years, the doctors do not advise watching the television due to its effect on the growing brain and the tender eyes. Even for those above that age, it is not recommended to view not more than 2 hours a day. Children get easily influenced by the programs they watch. According to a recent survey, Children who are watching too much of TV had a tendency to sleep late and wake up late. They bend towards poor memory power, difficult to retain what is taught in their classes.

Now that there are so many gadgets available,children prefer to stay indoors and watch TV or play computer games or play stations, hardly end up with any physical exercise making them gain too much weight and even getting obese. It happened with my own kids glued to the TV's since we were busy in our jobs and children were left alone at home lead to early age spectacles. The resolution of TV screen and computer is so high that it impacts the vision in the longer run.

The ad campaign on Televisions has immense impact on the kids. children always think that the food or things advertised are best for them and any deprivation or resistance from parents is seen as insult to them.

Whatever children do depends on parents. They must not be given over-freedom and their pocket money size should be minimum. Encouraging savings at an early age makes children conscious about money and their availability. Book reading must be encouraged not just the school stuff, but epics and jataka tales etc., which teaches moral values and fun.

Parents must encourage children for outdoor games especially cycling,swimming are the best for growing children.

Even if children have to see the television, what content they can see and cannot is the primary duty of the parents. It was reported based on a survey that in United States on an average children below 10 years receive or send 4000 messages in a year containing porn subject.

Children and teenagers are generally curious and it is very likely that when they start searching for Nintendos or other cartoon characters online, due to incorrect spellings they land into pornographic sites. Once children are exposed to graphical adult content on TV or internet, they can never regain their innocence.

Let us not see that day when we have to start "save children from TV" campaign!!!

Annual day Celebrations at School

I thought i will start blogging in the new year, as i feel it is a wonderful platform for sharing our views. I wondered what to write then i felt i share some of the experiences i had recently.

We as parents feel annual day celebrations at school are a big punishment, the feeling is further bad on a parent-teacher meeting day. Our fears for annual day celebrations starts with whether we will be able to attend it or not. What kind of costumes the teacher will ask us to bring and how much it will tax us?

I had an opportunity to attend most of the annual day celebrations of my kids in the recent years. And one was in 2008 UMANG festival. The school in Pune had a unique method, which is 100% participation of children for the school day. Imagine each class has 8-10 sections with a class strength of 40 maximum. It was on a week day and parents were pushing each other to ensure their kids are handed over to the teachers before start of the program. As usual the mighty prevailed over the meek. Adding to this, there were few quarrels and bizarre incidents for getting a right seat to see the program. The so called highly educated and elite parents were busy reserving seats to their kith and kin. Even the senior citizens and physically challenged parents were not obtained a place to sit.

Some of the enthusiastic parents were busy filming the entire programs inspite of announcements that they will be provided with entire video fell into deaf ears.

It is indeed good thought of having 100% children participation on the annual day, but the logistics should also support for conducting it.

Parent-teacher meetings are also scary for parents, cause even your child gets above A+ grade the teacher expects parents to work hard for securing very high percentage for their children.

The living god-Shirdi Sai baba

Who is sai baba? Is he a Fakir? Yogi or Saint? Is he Hindu or Muslim or belongs to other religions? Looks everybody has encountered this. Even Shri Hemad Pant in his book titled "Guru charitra" dwells upon these issues and tries to arrive a possible answers for it. But all said and done he is accepted as a GURU. Do we enquire the religion of guru? Do we really worry about Teacher's credentials. What matters us finally is what he teaches us. We look at what attributes in a teacher? He must be learned one, should know his subject thoroughly and answer all our queries. This what exactly Shirdi Sai baba did. What attracts me most about him is his simplicity. There are no hard and fast rules for his worship. There are so many instances, I have come across or witnessed by self with regard to his miracles. If one prays him with utmost reverence, you will get what you desire. Why we say living god because you can see his miracles even today. You want to take a bet, try for yourself. His preachings "Shradda" "Saburi" i.e, concentration and patience is key to all walks of life.
